Michael Phelps's Sports Illustrated Cover

Michael Phelps's Sports Illustrated Cover

Michael Phelps celebrates his record breaking Olympic games experience by gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated magazine. Michael Phelps has won the most gold medals of any Olympian ever! (a nice accolade!) Famously beating out swimmer Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Phelps's Sports Illustrated cover is a nice tribute to Spitz. In the picture Phelps strikes an identical pose to that of Spitz back in 1972.

In doing so Phelps manages to mark up yet another record! He became the swimmer that has appear the most on the cover of the popular American magazine's cover.

The mens coxless four got a very well deserved gold (as pictured) in a very exciting race, quashing the memories of Athens 2004. GB also claimed bronze medals in the women's and mens double sculls.

New Swimming Costumes Reason For Sucess?

Michael Phelps 8 Gold MedalsAfter reading a lot of articles and participating in online forums, it seems some people are making assumptions that the advancement in technology within the new swimming costumes are to be accredited for the huge advancement in swimming and the breaking of all the world records.

Having swam at top levels myself I can say, that the costumes have a very small impact on your performance, yes they are defiantly a help, and actually help by holding your muscles tight rather than create less friction through the water as most people think. They also aid performance as a mental boost, but all in all the new swimming suits don't help out as much as people are making out! The swim suits give just fractions of a second off your times where as just the development and progression in the sport and performances within the pool along with training advancements and training equipment makes up for the bulk of the improvements.
