2008 London Tree-Athlon!

Tree-AthlonThis Saturday there is the annual Tree-Athlon in London, in true spirit of a “triathlon” there is three stages to the event, a 5k run, an opportunity to tell the world what your "urban tree wish" is, and a chance to plant a sapling. There are many tree themed activities, prizes and entertainment on the day.

The event supports the Trees for cities an independent charity working with local communities on tree-planting and landscaping projects.

If you can't make this weekend don't worry as London isn't the only city hosting a Tree-Athlon, on the 28th of september there is an event in Leeds and on the 5th of October there is one in Manchester. Check out the website for more information:

I say, grab your trainers, keep yourself fit and support a great cause that will benefit us all in the long run!

Maximuscle Body of 2008 Competition

www.maximuscle.comLast night I entered my photos into the Maximuscle Body of 2008 Competition, via their website. I'm very confident and pleased with the images I submitted. I'd love to feature in the Maximuscle magazine as I've trained really hard through the duration of maintaining this blog and tracked my progress and training methods along with different equipment I've used.

It would be a great achievement as I feel I’ve worked very hard to get to the fitness level I’m currently at. I ran into many difficulties along the way, including currently training without a gym! But all in all feel I’ve achieved many goals within the time frame I set myself.

I’ll hope to hear something either way... we’ll have to wait and see! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

London Free Running World Championships

Free Running

This evening the 1st world free running championships will be held at the Roundhouse in Camden, London UK.

It's the 1st ever world championship for the sport which was originally developed in France and called "Parkour". With London currently being at the centre of attention in this discipline due to the recent adverts and film work done in the capital city. This has risen the popularity of the sport and organisers have decided to hold the 1st world championships there.

18 different countries from around the world are taking part and the event will showcase the best "free runners" from across the world jumping across railings, over walls, fences and other "urban" obstacles. The sport is based on the principle of getting around the urban landscape in a straight line in as smooth, flowing fashion as possible no matter what happens to be in your way.

In a twist to the regular judging competitions the competitors are actually going to act as the judges themselves to rate one another on skill, creativity, complexity and flow. Eventually the free runner with the best routine in the competition will be crowned "World Champion".

There are many free running and Parkour examples on YouTube.com and there are some professional free runners in the Madonna video "Jump" to give you an idea of what to expect at the free running world championships this evening.

Michael Phelps vs Usain Bolt

This is being discussed online and it seems like a lively debate. We each have our own opinions and I feel that both athletes performances where outstanding.
Beijing 2008
As I used to swim then I have to say I think Michael Phelps had the more impressive performance for me to watch, I mean 8 Olympic gold medals against the best swimmers in the world, and in most events each of the main swimming competitor was specialising yet Phelps was beating them all. Impressive.
Phelps vs Bolt
As for Usain Blot, again such an amazing performance to win the blue ribboned event of the Olympic games by such a huge margin! Not only that he took Michael Johnson's record from the '96 Olympic games, that many thought it'd take 50 years to break! Bolt also hit his 3 for 3 in what he wanted, his relaxed attitude towards competing at the biggest competition of any competitors life was an impressive sight.

Either way please vote on who you think you "Olympic Hero" was for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in our poll in the right hand sidebar.

There is also a very good website debating the subject here.
